About Us / Tracy Baucom, MA, LPA, Licensed Psychological Associate

Tracy Baucom, MA, LPA,
Licensed Psychological Associate

Tracy Baucom is a licensed psychological associate. She received her Bachelor of Science in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and Master of Arts Degree from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, with a special concentration in substance abuse disorders and dual-diagnosis clients. She began her journey into the field of psychology studying the efficacy of social skills training for the severely mentally ill in prison. Upon completing her coursework for her master's degree, Ms. Baucom served as an intern for the North Carolina Department of Correction, and subsequently was hired on by the department as a staff psychologist. In this setting she had the opportunity to work with a variety of mental health professionals in coordinating care, aid in training interns, and treating a large spectrum of disorders, including co-morbid substance abuse disorders.

In 2006 Ms. Baucom began work as a private practitioner in Wilmington, NC. She has had experience treating a variety of disorders including anxiety, depressive, manic, psychotic, and personality disorders, at times in conjunction with substance abuse difficulties. It is her belief that in order for someone to be successful in remaining substance free, virtually all aspects of their lives need to be addressed with the end goal of developing more effective coping skills thereby increasing the likelihood of successfully remaining clean and sober. For all individuals seeking therapy with Ms. Baucom, the importance of overall wellbeing is paramount. It is Ms. Baucom's belief that in order to be “well” a person must address not only issues that are current, but also work to maintain and continue to develop healthy habits in the realms of exercise, diet, spirituality, and family.

In the process of psychotherapy, Ms. Baucom employs predominantly cognitive behavioral techniques, although depending on the particular needs of the client she may choose additional methodologies. She helps clients deal with anger, grief, sadness, hopelessness, guilt, and frustration, while simultaneously aiding in the development of healthy coping skills. It is her belief that it is not only the therapist, but the partnership between the therapist and client that drives the therapeutic process, and that the two must work together to find the most effective strategies to assist the client with whatever difficulties needing to be addressed in therapy.
